Find the right surgeon for you
To support you on your path to diagnosis and management of endometriosis, we have compiled a list of gynecological surgeons who practice endometriosis excision surgery in Canada. This list can be searched by region, making it easier for you and your referring healthcare provider to identify and locate surgeons with expertise in endometriosis. As these doctors may vary in their preferred approaches to managing endometriosis, including both surgical and non-surgical approaches, finding the right doctor for you and your unique needs and life goals is essential. Your search could involve speaking to people with endometriosis to learn about their experiences, what worked for them and what didn’t. It’s also important to recognize that we all react to treatments differently, and what works for one person may not work for another. If you’re not sure about your treatment plan, you can always get a second opinion. We understand that it can be overwhelming to remember all the questions you want to ask your doctor. You can use the list of questions we created as a starting point to help you prepare for your appointment.
This information is important for people who have endometriosis or suspect they may have it. It can also be useful for healthcare providers who refer patients to specialists.
- The goal of the directory is to empower and support people with endometriosis or suspected endometriosis and their referring healthcare provider to find surgeons with expertise in endometriosis.
- Thanks to your feedback, our updated directory includes more information about the training and practice of surgeons in Canada.
- To build our directory, we developed a survey in partnership with the Canadian Society of Gynecologic Excellence (CanSAGE) to learn about endometriosis surgeons’ training and practice.
- We regularly update the directory, adding more endometriosis surgeons to the list and providing more information about their qualifications.
- If you don’t see a surgeon in your location, check the list often as we update it regularly.
- Doctors who are trained to do excision surgery are generally gynecologists who have completed additional training in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, usually through a fellowship in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery (MIGS). MIGS fellowships are specialized programs for gynecologists to learn minimally invasive surgical techniques.
- All doctors included in our directory practice in Canada and have specialized training to perform minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. They currently work as gynecologists and provide excision surgery as an option for treating endometriosis.
- You will need a referral to see an endometriosis surgeon. You can request one from your family doctor, nurse practitioner, gynecologist, or a physician at a walk-in clinic.
- If you don’t see your surgeon listed in this directory, it doesn’t mean that they aren’t qualified to help you manage your endometriosis. We’re always working to grow our list.
