Improving Trauma Informed Care Practices in Pelvic Health Care
University of Calgary
Purpose: The study will investigate best practices with regards to trauma informed pelvic health care and will be conducted into two parts. Part 1 will involved initial drafting of the proposed guidelines, including integration of insights from a multidisciplinary team of providers as well as integration of the patient perspective including 25, 30-minute patient interviews with trauma survivors about their experiences of pelvic health care. Part 2 is ongoing and involves eliciting feedback on the proposed clinical guidelines from patients (n=100), as well as from providers from those multi-disciplinary backgrounds (n = 250). Providers will include but not be limited to: gynecologists, urologists, family practice physicians, midwives and maternity practitioners, and pelvic floor physical therapists.
Our goals:
- To adapt trauma informed care principles to pelvic health care
- Elucidate barriers to clinical implementation
- Gauge feasibility of suggestions
- Assess practitioner buy-in/readiness
- Glean insight into other practice changes that clinicians may be doing and that patients may be interested in.
Eligibility:
- Participants engaged in any kind of pelvic health care in the past 5 years who have a history of medical or sexual trauma;
- 18+
- English speaking
